Speakers are electromechanical transducers that convert an electrical signal to sound. Alexander Graham Bell patented the first electrical loudspeaker as part of his telephone in 1876. Enrst Siemens followed with an improved version in 1878. Up until the 1950s, the quality of speakers was poor, but continuous developments in design and materials have led to significant audible improvements.
