His Space, Her Space
Posted in Home Accessories at 1:36 pm
If you are sharing a space with an opposite sex and dealing with too much girl stuff or too much manly things is beginning to be a problem, then here’s a little something for you to look at and consider:
- If you have separate rooms, then it is never a problem. All you need to deal with are the common areas i.e. living, dining/kitchen and bathroom. According to a survey conducted involving 300 Canadians from Vancouver, Toronto nad Montreal, 62% consider the living room their favourite among all the rooms in the house and within that space, men and women, couples and single ones, have conflicting concepts of “hanging out.”
- While most men prefer an action area that resembles a game room, women on the other hand enjoy a tidy space that creates at atmosphere that is perfect for rest and relaxation. Although 71% of men and women agreed that they wanted their place to feel cozy and intimate, 31% of men seemed to prefer modern decor while 32% of women said they enjoy traditional furniture. It is better to stick with classic designs, like leather or upholstered couches with neutral shades. If you want something that has some splash of colors on it, then try going with hues that suit both parties.

- Playing with light displays can be a less tricky subject–while Mr P. Lamp can stay in the boys’ room, and magic color in the girls’, the living room or dining can have the Jellephish Mood Lamp. Yellow lights that resemble that of your favorite spa is safe to be placed in the bathroom since both guys and gals can actually enjoy the ambience it brings.
- When accessorizing your home, being overly attached to the feminine side makes the space awkward for the guys. Same thing happens to her when the space has too much masculinity in it, like an industrialize look—steels and hard plastics everywhere. The best thing to do is to find a common ground to be able to accommodate both your interests. Designs should represent both ends.
- In the kitchen or dining are, a glass-top table is a safe thing to have since it’s not to traditional nor too modern—it just has the right amount of coziness the ladies need and the energy that guys want. Also, you can always bring in an eclectic style. Considering designs that are fun to use and look at from that popcorn maker to coasters to salt and pepper shakers.
Everything you put in your space would actually work depending on styles and preferences of the both of you. All you need to have is a lot creativity and a little compromising to work on.
