Chinese author files case against Google
It’s China’s turn to react as Google gets another lawsuit for their move to scan books for their online library.
The chinese novelist, Mian Mian, who is popular for writing about counterculture and tlaes of sex and drugs filed a lawsuit in the last quarter of 2009 against Google for illegally scanning “Acid House”.
And illegal is something that Mian Mian is used to as the book “Candy” which boosted her popularity to the stratosphere graphically depicted heroin use. Thier camp, guided by the lawyer Sun Jingwei, is on the right and lawful side of the fence now as they turn and look for legal guidelines to oppose Google’s move to make a digital library making many books accessible online.
Their camp demanded for 61,000 yuan or 6,000 pounds for offending intellectual property rights. Google’s counter measure was to not include the book in their online catalogue since they are making too much of a big deal out of the matter.
“We think even if they remove Mian Mian’s work, their previous behavior is a violation of her rights,” Sun said. “We demand a public apology.”
If you’re not in the mood to apologize, go for the merchandise at Gadgetepoint, no copyright laws offended there.
