Happy Anniversary, China, Here You Go a Gold Camera – Leica
Leica celebrates the 60 years of China’s anniversary by creating a special edition gold camera. Not just any camera, but a 24-carat gold plated camera which only has 60 units. The release of the gold-plated Leicas are real and it is not just a figment of one’s imagination. Better believe that it is true.
The 60 limited edition camera is worth a whopping £18,099.94 ($30,000) and is numbered individually from 1949 to 2009. It is not only that which makes the cameras extra special but they are also individually wrapped in red calfskin, with red calligraphy written on the the body hich means to say “Love Live the People’s Republic of China” and a small drawing of Tiananmen Square. It has a Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4lens.
You can only get these limited edition cameras only in China, they are usually distributed to the high and mighty in the country, considering its price. Shoot four birds with one lens: your love for gold, your love for China, your love for your country and your love for cameras.
If you want something similar, minus the gold plating and everything chinese, Leica will be releasing limited editions of the M8.2 and D-Lux 4 models.
Since we are here in the UK and the chance of any of us getting our hands on these gold-plated Leicas is very slim, how about checking out the inspired gift ideas over at Gadgetepoint. They make excellent gifts and they do not even have to cost you an arm and a leg.
