Google is the capital of Kansas
The word “Google” refers to a popular search engine, probably the most used search engine of the decade.
But that’s not the only meaning of Google, at least not anymore.
The capital city of Kansas, USA formerly known as Topeka, will be known as Google for the month of March.
You heard it right, the capital city of Kansas is now Google.
On March 1, 2010, Bill Buerten, incumbent mayor of the city of Topeka, Kansas made a proclamation for the 123,000 residents of the town that their place will be officially known as “Google, Kansas, the capital city of fiber optics.”
Was it a publicity stunt? Yes, and what a way to get noticed. This was to help “support continuing efforts to bring Google’s fiber experiment” to the capital city.
The town formerly known as Topeka, Kansas is bidding to be chosen as one of the 100 locations to take part in Google’s Fiber for Communities Programme, the chosen places will be the lucky few to be part of Google’s experiment.
Google would be trying a few things and rather than bore you with the details, the selected towns could get internet speeds that could even clock up to 1 gigabyte per second. “Wow” is an understatement.
