Fast Internet Broadband for all
“I want Britain to be the world leader in the digital economy which will create over a quarter of a million skilled jobs by 2020, the world leader in public service delivery where we can give voice and choice to citizens, parents, patients and consumers and the world leader in the new politics where that voice for feedback and deliberative decisions can transform the way we make local and national decisions,”
This is the vision of Prime Minister Gordon Brown as he sets out and lays the plan of ensuring super-fast broadband for every home in the UK. This universal fast broadband will help reduce public service costs and create some 250,000 jobs. The universal fast broadband is part of the plan of the prime minster to transform the UK by 2020.
Part of Mr. Brown’s plans is to give everyone in the UK a personalised webpage for accessing government services. This, according to him, will reduce the cost of having to go face-to-face with government officials. UK citizens will now be turning to the world wide web in order to reduce job centres, and physical offices. In the next 10 years, Gordon Brown assumes that UK will be the new forefront of technology.
Many others believe, however, that this move will only be creating a “lasting, pervasive and damaging new digital divide”.
