Save the World by Counting Craters
If we tell you that mere citizens like us, are right now, preventing meteors from doing damage to our homeland. Would you believe us? And that these people have no superhuman powers like Superman nor have mutations of the human gene like the X-men. Yep, be part of the Moon Zoo project, count craters from images taken by NASA, and you might just prevent impending doom with the data that you have gathered.
The Moon Zoo project of Nasa and the Citizen Science Alliance crowdsources the examination of high-resolution images of the moon to find out some of the answers that has puzzled mankind for centuries and counting.
The images gathered will be helpful in identifying the history of both the moon and the solar system. The tasks that will be given to the thousands of participants vary in complexity, but some are as simple as counting craters on the moon. The “impact bombradment history” implied by these images will help astronomers prevent some of the risks that the Earth and the moon face from foreign bodies that will hit its surface.
The Citizen Science Alliance is expecting a high number of participants from this announcement. A similar project was launched a few years back, the reception towards Galaxy Zoo was so good, in fact s quarter of a million participated in the said project.
