Mersey Burns Helps Treats Burn Wounds
No, Mersey Burns is not some magical app for the iPhone, iPod, or iPod Touch that you put near a burn wound and it automatically becomes cured. That would be witchcraft. But it does something more scientific — it helps reduce errors when treating burn victims.
With any type of burns, even with the smallest ones, the first few minutes of interaction are crucial. Proper knowledge and treatment will determine whether you are scarred for life or if the burn mark wouldn’t even be there after a few years.
Designed by Chris Seaton, a Ph.D student from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, the application contains essential information on how to treat burn wounds. Since there is no one best way of treating a wound, the app can identify the best procedures for treatment based on the time of the burn, the area affected, and the cause of the burn.
“There is great possibility for creating really innovative technology by pairing up small touch-screen devices with medicine,” said Chris Seaton. “Even simple ideas can make a big difference, and all it takes is a doctor getting together with a computer scientist to make it a reality.”
