The most popular social netowrking website in the world is rumored to be collaborating with a cellular phone manufacturer to build their very own cell phone unit.

The rumors sprung from the technology webiste AllThingsD as they report that Mark Zuckerberg’s multi-billion dollar company will venture into the hardware business.

AllThingsD reported that Facebook and HTC are in brainstorming on how to build the device. It’s pegged on the concept that Facebook will be the core of this new HTC phone.

According to AllThingsD: “After years of considering how to best get into the phone business, Facebook has tapped Taiwanese cellphone maker HTC to build a smartphone that has the social network integrated at the core of its being.”

“Code-named “Buffy,” after the television vampire slayer, the phone is planned to run on a modified version of Android that Facebook has tweaked heavily to deeply integrate its services, as well as to support HTML5 as a platform for applications, according to sources familiar with the project.”

Samsung was allegedly one of the options for the collaboration but Facebook chose HTC instead. Whether or not the collaboration is true, there are already two HTC phones out in the market that have dedicated Facebook buttons, the Salsa and the ChaCha.

But the Facebook phone will not just have a Facebook button, but it will have the social networking technology developed into the whole device. We’re guessing that there will be an actual “Like” button.
