It will be Nintendo DSi and it’s larger screen version, the Nnintendo DSi XL that will undergo this price cut. And the price decrease is rather significant.

The DSi which was first released in 2008 used to be priced at $149, but with Nintendo’s latest move, the Nintendo DSi will be priced at only $99.

Meanwhile the Nintendo DSi XL’s pricing wasn’t it’s strongest point ever since. At $169, the DSi XL was at the same price range with its more appreciated brother, Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS boasts of more power and features at the expense of a frail battery life, but people were willing to let go of this minor flaw compared to the DSi XL that lords over the size category with its larger screen. Size doesn’t matter in this market. With the DSi XL’s low sales, maybe it’s time for it to humble itself at $129.

This 20 – 30 percent decrease in pricing might do well for the sales of these handheld consoles as the tablets and phones are slowly eating up on the market of handheld consoles and with the Nintendo DS targetting the casual gamers and tablets and touch screen phones, have the same target market, the Nintendo DS series has a lot to worry about.
