Blade Runner, Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic has been gathering a lot of buzz since the announcement last year that a sequel to the film was on the works. Ridley Scott has been on board since day one, and now, reports say that even the Harisson Ford, who starred in the original, has joined the early talks regarding Blade Runner 2.
The film, which some consider to be the best science fiction film of all time, is based on Philip K. Dick’s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”. The story focuses on Rick Deckard who works as a ‘blade runner’ in an overpopulated future Los Angeles; hunting down a gang of escaped android outlaws known as replicants.
Despite the fact that no confirmation has been made regarding the role Ford will play in the sequel; whether he continues on as the main character or whether he appears as a cameo. The current talk on Ford returning to film the movie, decades after the original, revives the debate which shot off from the original: is Deckard himself a replicant?
Any chance of these questions being answered any time soon seem very unlikely as Scott is currently busy with his long-awaited return to science fiction with Prometheus starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, and Idris Elba and opening in the UK on 1 June.
It may be quite a while till we all get our Ridley Scott sci-fi fix, in the mean time, why not make a quick peek at Gadgetepoint’s to get a load of the coolest gadgets and gift ideas?

Last week, Matt Smith proposed to his long-time girlfriend – 23 year-old Stacie-Anne Dilkes – at the Doctor Who Experience exhibition in London’s Olympia.

Now before you go off tweeting this to your fellow Whovians, note that this Matt smith in question is a 22 year-old bloke from Rochford, Essex who simply happens to share the same name as the actor who plays the Doctor’s eleventh regeneration.

Matt Smith dressed up in the Eleventh’s uniform – a tweed jacket and bow tie – and pretended to be part of the exhibit section featuring original props and costumes from almost 50 years of the program before going down on one knee and proposing… to a gleeful “Yes!”.

Good-natured Matt Smith, the actual Eleventh Doctor sent a personal message to the couple: “Matt Smith proposing to his girlfriend! Firstly, being a Smith means phone calls to the bank take so much longer – there are so many Smiths!! But I bet none of them have proposed at the Doctor Who Experience! Amy and Rory would be proud. Next – babies in the TARDIS…? Congratulations to you both and many years of happiness. Love, Matt.”

The Nintendo Wii has been around too long in terms of video game consoles. From 2006, it has been the flagship console of the Nintendo gaming system. For all the right reasons. The Nintendo Wii has been the second best-selling game console in the US, only right behind the Nintendo DS. Now, it seems that Nintendo feels that Nintedo feels the need to introduce a younger brother to the console.

Introducing the Nintendo Wii U.

Wii will rock U

The Nintendo Wii U is set to be launched in the US, UK, Australia and Japan during the last quarter of 2012. Satoru Iwata, of Nintendo announced in Japan that the Nintendo Wii will rock the U at the end of the year.

It seems that Nintendo has been falling behind the market share and has been experiencing loss in 2011, even though as of January 2012 the Nintendo Wii leads ahead of the Sony Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 in terms of sales, making it one of the leading game consoles in the market. Nintendo is hoping that the release of the U will help increase their sales in the market.

It’s a great idea considering that many had been anticipating an upgrade to the Nintendo Wii console. With the Nintendo Wii U to be released before Christmas time, it can be expected that Wii fans will probably line up for its release before Christmas as toys to gift themselves with.

Times are changing. Back in the days, a screw driver, a knife, and a cork screw might be one of the necessities that a Swiss Army knife would have.

Times are changing too, in terms of the electronics world, that one goes without saying. Remember when a large diskette was still used, it was so large but its storage capacity did not reflect the large space that it occupied. At 1.44 MB, the floppy disk was not even enough to store an mp3 file, it can store some Word files and maybe a small flash game, but that was it.

Then came the flash disk, it was pretty much a necessity that it’s integration with a Victorinox Swiss Army knife was inevitable.

So victorinox did what it was expected to do, and it did a lot more. Instead of just doing a 2GB flash disk or maybe 16GB, in true Victorinox fashion, the Swiss Army Solid-State Drive went out with a band. Boasting storage capacities that range from 64GB to 1TB, owning your very own Swiss Army SSD means you are almost ready for anything.

The item isn’t available yet, you’d have to wait until April 2012.
Be ready for a party or any occasion that calls for fun, stock up on the cool toys from Gadgetepoint and you can turn any situation into a party.

Katy Perry, one of the most fashionably forward people on the planet, is set to make Sims3 even more fashionable with her inclusion in the game.

Electronic Arts recently announced its venture to include Katy Perry in Sims 3 with a line of her expansion pack. They plan “to develop multiple games within The Sims franchise featuring special Katy Perry themed in-game content and virtual goods.”

The actress is more than excited as she will keeping herself busy by designing her own line of clothes, accessories, furniture and even gadgets to represent herself in-game. The expansion pack will be called Katy Perry – Collector’s Edition.

This is not Katy’s first time to be appearing in Sims as her song Hot and Cold as it has been recorded in the earlier version of the game, Sims 2. The song has been recorded in Simlish.

We are speculating that her appearance in the game will have her character starting a music-career. Players of Sims 3 may have to jump start that music career by making her increase her creative points in the game. Not that the lovely Ms. Perry isn’t creative in real life–because we all know she is.

Watch out for Katy Perry in the Sims as the expansion pack is set to be released on March. For now, she will be on tour promoting her addition to the game.

When Megaupload was shut down by the US Department of Justice it only served to create a backlash where many internet users and oppositionists of the Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA, declared war.

A warrant for its indictment was issued to the Virginia based company to cease its operations. Not only that, but even arrest four of its proprietors who are living in New Zealand. Kim Schmitz one of its founders were arrested and has some of his property seized. Kim Tim Jim Vestor and Mathias Ortmann their other founders were also arrested.

Megaupload is a file-sharing site. Users can share content in the website-music, books, movies, gazillions of photos-whether they are pirated or not. Its CEO, Swiss Beatz-a top hip-hop and R&B producer and is also Alicia Keys husband, is backed by support from many of his friends in the music industry. Among those who are supporting Megaupload are Busta Rhymes and PDiddy.

It is believed by SOPA oppositionists that this move by the US Department of Justice will only serve to increase the incidence of takedown-before-trial cases. Where websites, even at the slightest suspicion that they are hosting pirated content, will be shut down even without prior trial. Guilty before proven innocent.

Earlier this month, Hong Kong-based In Icons announced that they will be producing dolls of the popular black turtlenecked pop culture icon and Apple main man, the recently deceased Steve Jobs. But the In Icons dolls did not receive as much positive feedback as Apple products. And, after much pressure from Apple and Steve Jobs’ family, the company decided to put a stop to the production and sales of the 12-inch figurines.

“Though we still believe that we have not overstepped any legal boundaries, we have decided to completely stop the offer, production and sale of the Steve Jobs figurine out of our heartfelt sensitivity to the feelings of the Jobs family,” said the In Icons head Tandy Cheung.

“Regardless of the pressure, I am still Steve’s fan, I fully respect Steve, and his family, and it is definitely not my wish or intention that they be upset.” he adds.

This was after his clear refusal to follow Apple’s legal demands. “Apple can do anything they like. I will not stop, we already started production,” Tandy Cheung said to ABC before. It’s a good thing that he backed down, it seems that Apple had a legal basis for asking a stop and desist order.

Interested in dolls and other cool toys? We’re not selling these Steve Jobs dolls at gadgetrpoint., but we’re sure we have a whole array of options to choose from.

Nintendo, the Japanese gaming giant cut its sales forecast for the Wii console and the handheld 3DS. The company has announced that they may experience a bigger loss than what they originallly expected for this year.

The culprit? The strength of the Yen is certainly on this list. Also to blame is the black cloud of gloom looming over the overall economic situation of the country. HOwever, coming in first on this to-blame list are the products themselves.

The biggest problem affecting the sales of the 3DS has been the rise of smartphone gaming. Hardcore gamers may take real pleasure in playing the excellently-designed games on the 3DS, but let’s face it: most people are perfectly content with a quick round of Angry Birds.

Why buy a separate gaming console and then pay £30 for a game when you can have fun with a 69p- worth game on the device you carry in your pocket every day?

While it is true that the Nintendo Wii deserves a lot of credit for the boom in casual gaming, its innovative control system is now being surpassed by both Sony’s PlayStation Move and Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect. Add to this the challenges from casual online games that all these three console manufacturers face.

Nintendo better come up with something innovative to catch up.

Want to catch up yourself? Do so by staying updated with the latest in gadgets and gizmos here in http://www.gadgetepoint.co.uk/.
