Bono’s gadget investment, not too good

U2’s frontman and a charitable institution himself, Bono, became charitabe to Palm Inc., the company behind the Treo and Centro smart phones in December 2008.

After this £312 million pound invested proved to be a mistake after dropping 35 percent in stock shares since January, don’t you wish that Bono invested or placed his money in some other charitable institution?

Elevation Partners, the California-based private-equity business, where the U2 frontman is a managing partner, decided to save Palm Inc. The company may have been too optimistic with Palm Inc.’s potential as the firm’s executives originally predicted up to £1.1 billion in sales, but Bono’s investment in the smart telephone maker wasn’t at all smart when the company just raked in £193.8 million.

Factor in the struggling economy and competitors whose names are just too familiar like Apple and Blackberry, it’s no wonder Palm Inc. cannot get the elevation Bono would have wanted for the company.

Plus the fact that Bono appeared in a commercial for one of his company’s competitors, Blackberry, doesn’t help at all.

“Driving broad consumer adoption of Palm products is taking longer than we anticipated.” uttered Jon Rubinstein, chief executive of the company said in a statement. The guys are still optimistic about this £312 million investment.

The gadgets from Gadgetepoint are life-savers, the affordable prices make them a very practical choice in these times of crisis.

Facebook Named Best Invention of the Past Decade

Be glad you are using the best invention of the past decade. That is of course, if you are on Facebook as Facebook is named best invention of the past decade.

The survey, performed on several Britons, asked more than a thousand people to name their favorite invention within the past decade. Almost 75 percent of them named Facebook among their choices. This does not surprise us, as facebook had defined the landscape of social media and social networking. Facebook is not the only social networking website ranking in the survey as Twitter comes third getting 58 percent of the votes. iPhone comes in between Facebook and Twitter, ranking second in the survey.

There were funny inventions ranking in the survey such as jeggings-a fashionable cross between jeans and leggings and there were even some who voted for Jedward–the X Factor twins.

Facebook comes at the top of the survey with 73 percent, iPhone comes second at 62 percent. Followed by twitter, the mp3 player, satellite navigation systems, the iPod, Youtube, HD TVs, GHD hair straighteners and 3D films.

It is funny to note these things down. Considering that these are the technological inventions which have defined the last decade.

Groovy iPod docking with the iLava

The nostalgic lava lamp has been a symbol of the 70s and its groovy visual hypnotism can be associated with the peaceful, harmonious and music loving aura of our zen and hippie brethren.

Given this association, it only takes time for the lava lamp and its harmonious relationship with music to jive itself back into the new millennium.

The iPod Lava Docking System or what is predictably known as the iLava is a docking station for iPods and while your music device is being charged you can enjoy that captivating LED light show.

What is more enchanting about the iLava is that the “lava” inside dances and pulsates along with every beat playing from your iPod. Space out as you watch the iLava performs its light show. Sweet!

The iLava was designed in 2007, so it was designed with the original iPod in mind, not just the iTouch or the iPhone, it has a total of 8 docking insert adapters so that the first edition of iPod along with the new ones like the iTouch and the iPhone can use device to charge and dock their iPods.

And for £69.99, it’s a decent centerpiece for your room.

Apple censors apps on App store

Apple will pull out some applications from its App store if they are found to have overtly sexual content.

The electronics company behind the iPod and the recent buzz maker, iPad. began removing iPhone and iPod touch, applications from its online App store, those being removed are applications which are sexual and offensive in nature.

These includes applications which feature bikini models, and applications where the objective is, shall we say, activities that may involve increasing the world’s population.

“If we find these apps contain inappropriate material, we remove them and request the developer make any necessary changes in order to be distributed by Apple,” according to a statement from the company.

This move may be met with controversy as the creators claimed the power to decide what or what not to place on people’s iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone.

Some people are saying that it’s their product anyways and Apple should always have the final say on what should or shouldn’t their products have, either application developers comply to the standards of the App store or they should just find another venue to market their applications.

Terrorism is just a click away

“Terrorist groups and their sympathizers have expressed interest in using cyber means to targt the United States and its citizens.” that is what Dennis Blair, US Director of National Intelligence, said to the US Senate.

There were no statement yets against the UK, but other countries might also be their next target.

This story isn’t too farfetched as online attack against websites have been recorded already in some countries, one of which was in Saudi Arabia, the really threatening part of this was you did not need to be a member of extremist groups to gain access to such destructive information, all you need is internet connection.

According to Dominique Thomas, from the Paris School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences: “On jihadist websites there are all sorts of manuals explaining how to make an e-bomb, how to create a virus, how to use encryption techniques”

“They are very up to date. The Saudis especially are very strong.” added the specialist in Islamic networks.

What is bothersome about this news is that you do not need to be initiated and be identified as religious extremist to gain access to this dangerous information, anyone with bad intentions can perform the attack on someone else, and that information is readily available online.

Other than access these types of website, make your internet surfing productive by visiting Gadgetepoint.
