We All (don’t) Live in a Killer Whale Submarine

PhotobucketEver wanted to ride your own killer whale? And even go as far as control it? Well, for $100,000 you can. Enter Hammacher Schlemmer’s Killer Whale Submarine.

Two people can fit into this submarine from Hammacher Schlemmer. These two people are shooting a lot of birds at the same time. First, they’re riding a submarine. Second, it’s also a whale. And then third, it’s like a personal underwater rollercoaster.

More than your boring old submarine that just calmly moves through the water, the Killer Whale Submarine isn’t a killer whale submarine for nothing. So what do you expect a whale to do? It breaches from the water, just like what you would expect from a whale. As to how it can do it, it’s hard to explain, but it can.

And at 25mph underwater, its speed isn’t all that bad. And on the surface it can even hydroplane at up to 50mph. Also, there’s video feed from a camera on the dorsal fin.

Too bad you don’t have $100,000 to spend on your very own Killer Whale Submarine. Or do you? In case you don’t, Gadgetepoint has all the cool gadgets to keep you preoccupied while you’re saving for those 100 grand.

Is the Futulele the Ukulele of the Future?

The Futulele is a ukulele synthesizer for the iOS. By placing an iPhone and iPad on the custom made guitar-shaped case for the Futulele, you can have yourself a ukulele that plays like the conventional instrument.

Now let’s pit the Futulele against the ukulele, pros and cons. We’ll try to see if the Futulele can actually replace the ukulele.

Futulele
And one of the major con of the Futulele is it’s price. For the Futulele to be fully functional, you need to buy an iPhone, an iPod, and the guitar case. Plus if the Futulele isn’t free, you need to add that to the bill. And then you compare it to a ukulele, which most of us know isn’t one of the most expensive musical instruments in the market, in fact it’s one of the cheaper ones. So regarding pricing, the ukulele wins remarkably. A ukulele could cost just a few times more than the application. Overall, it’s almost 100 times cheaper than the Futulele set.

But we all know that you wouldn’t be buying an iPhone and iPad just to play a Futulele. And then there’s the added feature of portability, carrying a ukulele around is not a dream come true for your bag, if it’s even big enough to carry one.

Maybe the Futulele will not be able to replace the humble ukulele, but if you’re casual ukulele player or would like to learn to play the instrument and you already have an iPhone and iPad, why not give it a try once it’s released?

10 Cents Origami Paper Detects Malaria

At 10 cents each, the origami paper sensor is a very much welcome innovation for poverty-stricken nations who are suffering from a malaria outbreak.

The University of Texas at Austin developed the origami paper sensor based on the “technology” used by home pregnancy kits.

Richard Crooks and Hong Liu discuss the design of the origami Paper Analytical Device: “They had to pattern several pieces of paper using photolithography, cut them with lasers, and then tape them together with two-sided tape,” Liu said. “When I read the paper, I remembered when I was a child growing up in China, and our teacher taught us origami. I realized it didn’t have to be so difficult…Just fold the paper, and then apply pressure.”

The origami Paper Analytical Device, which the developers are planning to call the “oPAD”. You place urine, saliva, or blood into the oPAD and then unfold the paper, if the color of the oPAD changes, you better see the doctor.

There would be some instances where the oPAD would be needing some sort of power to conduct its operations, in these cases, Crooks and Liu has decided to add a battery which would increase the price to a few cents. The salt in urine can act as an electrolyte for the battery.

Gadgetepoint hopes that this development would go on full throttle as several countries would really benefit from it.

PSP in Blue

The PSP is blue. No, not because the handheld gaming console is not getting much new games, but because it is blue, literally.

The PSP has not been as big as its competitors, with the Nintendo DS gobbling up that market. And those other “gamers”, if you would call them, chose the iPod and iPhone as their “console” of choice. And then the Android OS entered the market and the PSP’s share continued to shrink.

But au contraire, in its hometown Japan, the PSP experienced much success and is continuing to make some sales still. Maybe enough sales to continue enticing the market with what Sony has to offer — a blue PSP.

Now, what’s the difference with the blue PlayStation Portable versus the regular PSP-3000? Well, you guessed it right, it is color blue!

But as far as hardware is concerned, there’s not much to rave about the blue PSP.

Still interested? Included in the package are a 2GB Memory Stick PrO Duo (not blue), a charger (not blue) cleaning cloth (blue), and a soft shell zipper case (blue).

If you have a mad fascination with the cerulean hue, Gadgetepoint has blue items too. But that’s not all that Gadgetepoint can offer.

Stylish Styluses

If the plural of radius is radii, does that mean there is no such word as “styluses”? Yep. Just like the fact that styli nitpicking is something new to gadget geeks, the styli market is a new niche for techie producers now that the iPad 3 and other tablets is a common albeit indispensable gadget.

Currently, the Pogo Sketch Stylus from Ten One is ruling the market in sales with its sponge tip. However, users are getting tired of its carpal tunnel inducing thin body and its very soft spongy tip. Made from light-weight alluminum alloy, you have to put more pressure on the screen just to be detected on

Lego Will Soon Be Wind Powered

No, this doesn’t mean you will need to aerate your legos before you play with them, but it seems that the production of Lego toys will be wind powered as Kirkbi A/S, the family holding which manufactures Lego, has recently bought 500 Million worth of wind turbines.

It seems that Lego wants to proudly say that their toys were built by the wind, one way or another. Lego is putting their money to good use as they will invest the $500 million to green energy in wind farm projected located about 35 miles off the Northwest German coast.

The company, DONG energy, will be 32% owned by Lego and is set to be fully operational by 2015. Kirkbi Chief Executive Soren Thorup Sorensen told Reuters that, “This investment supports the LEGO Group’s ambitious environmental goals.”

“One of our fundamental values is that we want to help enable future generations of children to grow up in a better world. We do that first and foremost through our play materials – but also by improving the safety of our employees, improving the energy efficiency of our production, and reducing the volume of waste. In the field of renewable energy our objective is an ambitious one – and I am very pleased at this time to be able to announce this investment.” Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO of the LEGO Group said.

Twitter Co-Founder Warns About Unhealthy Overtweeting

Biz Stone, co-founder and creative director of the micro-blogging site – which is paradoxically, one of today’s cyber giants- said that staying logged on to Twitter for hours on end is “unhealthy”. Tweeter users have claimed that the micro-blogging site proves to be quite addictive and they would find themselves logged to their accounts for 12 hours or more.

In a conference in Montreal, the 37 year old director said that the usage of Twitter for such a long period was not what the 140-character messaging site was originally intended for. “Instead fans should use the site to find what they want – and they go and do something else,” Stone added.

He continued to say that he likes the kind of engagement where users would simply go to the website and then leave because they have found what they are looking for or because they have found something very interesting or learned something.

“I think that’s a much healthier engagement. Obviously, we want you to come frequently,” he said.

Stone was also quoted saying that the company had no plans to increase the 140 character limit of Twitter.

Short and sweet – that is how everyone’s expected to tweet. Well, if you do not wish to be wanting, keep your sights on Gadgetepoint’s to always be on the know about the coolest deals and gadgets.

iPad 3 to Be Released Date on March 7

Apple fanboys can now breath as they know the release date of the iPad’s third coming.

The release will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. If you have been watching closely, this is also the same place where the first two versions of the sensational tablet were released.

What can one expect from the iPad 3, well in a nutshell, a better processor and better grapgics. iPad 3 will sport a quad core processor and rumors say that they will be applying the same Retina Display technology that was used on the latest iPhone, which is superior to Super AMOLED.

Aside from this, Siri is also expected to be in iPad 3. Siri is defines the iPhone 4S, the voice operated voice assistant is what most people will remember as the key improvements in the iPad 4.

And what can the penny pinchers expect? Well, there’s good news for them too. Not in the iPad 3 itself. But if they have been dying to buy an iPad 2, they have more reason to do so now. Since with every release of new Apple product versions the previous one will get an inevitable price drop.

Penny pinching? Gadgetepoint has very good options for entertainment.
