It is no secret that Twitter has a very strong and influential sway over social media. Many people turn to their Twitter accounts to update blow by blow events–and in real time. Which was why when Google introduced the Google Search plus Your World, a feature which indexes content fro the social networks a person belongs to, and excludes Twitter, Twitter was upset.

This is not because Google feels threatened by Twitter, but because Twitter’s algorithm does not allow Google crawling bots to index the Twitter.com domain. This was not always the case as Google had access to the microblogging site, previously. Only recently, however, Twitter revoked Google’s access.

Twitter’s annoyance to Google surprises the guys from Google, as:

We are a bit surprised by Twitter’s comments about Search plus Your World, because they chose not to renew their agreement with us last summer (http://goo.gl/chKwi), and since then we have observed their rel=nofollow instructions.

Now, because of the new search feature, users who will be searching for content such as @WWE will be directed to Google+ and other contents instead of to Twitter. This was pointed out by Alex Macgillivray one of Twitter’s lawyers.

While at this point, we may have our opinions on who is on the right in this issue, but it may still be too early to tell.

Perhaps, you need to keep an eye on Gadgetepoint for more news and developments on this issue.

It seems that it’s Christmas time over at Twitter as Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud and his Kingdom Holding Company invested $300 million dollars on the social networking site.

“Our investment in Twitter reaffirms our ability in identifying suitable opportunities to invest in promising, high-growth businesses with a global impact,” Prince Alwaleed said about the investment.

The 26th richest man in the world seem to be investing a lot on media and entertainment related companies as he is known to have interests in several media outfits in Saudi Arabia, among some of these are Citicorp and the Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) in which he holds roughly 30% of its shares.

The brilliant idea was not all his alone as Prince Alwaleed’s team is passionate on the media industry. “We believe that social media will fundamentally change the media industry landscape in the coming years,” Eng. Ahmed Halawani, KHC Executive Director of Private Equity and International Investments shares.

There is no denying that the $300 million investment will greatly benefit the microblogging service, but it is yet to be confirmed on how this will affect how things will go with Twitter.

The Saudi Prince does not even own a twitter account, but his wife Princess Ameera Al-Taweel is one of Saudi Arabia’s most famous tweeters as she has over 83,000 followers.

Unlike the prince, not all of us has that kind of money to spend on things we love. Christmas is a hard time for our pockets so we have to make better financial decisions. Gadgetepoint is a nice place to find coold gadgets at very affordable prices.

And if you’re a twitter fan, we’re sure you’d like it too. Firebox gives you the Twitter Poster.

No, it’s not a robot that tweets for you (but if you’re into robots and other cool stuff, you should head to Gadgetepoint ), instead it’s a poster, like the ones you put on display, that has your profile pic in Twitter and if you look closely, you’ll be able to see the posts that you’ve sent in the past.

The 61cm x 61 cm is all you and it’s all twitter. Firebox will be able to make it for you, just tell them your Twitter address and they’ll get it done in no time. But for £24.99, for a sheet of paper, you must really be a fan of the microblogging website.

“Packed with all of your insights, musings, recommendations, shout-outs and more, it’s the most insightful, immediate and revealing self-portrait you could ever own,” said Firebox’s website.

Firebox puts a literal meaning to the adage, “A picture paints a thousand words.” In this case, it actually does.

If you’re looking for something less narcissistic, Gadgetepoint has more to offer.

Artist and political activist Ai Wei Wei was released last June 22 on bail after more than two months in detention for charges of alleged tax evasion. Interestingly, most of his supporters claim that he has been, ‘Freed but not free’; taking into account his year-round restrictions: orders not to leave Beijing without permission, prohibition from taking any interviews or making any public statements, and his ban from posting anything on Twitter.

Ai Wei Wei, whose claim to fame ranges from being an artistic consultant along with Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron for the architectural design of the Beijing National Stadium used in the 2008 Olympics to being a political activist and critic of the Chinese government, has 89,000 followers on Twitter and has tweeted 60,162 times.

The ‘timely’ release of the dissident artist happened a day before Premier Wen Jiabao’s Europe tour aimed at building closer economic ties. Britain and Germany, among others in the international community, have criticised the famous artist’s detention; however, China has denied any claims that the international outcry against Ai’s detention affected Beijing’s decision regarding his release.

Politics and art… isn’t it a pretty interesting mix? Just keep visiting Gadgetepoint to get a load of more interesting stuff.

The online short messaging service website bought the third party enhancement TweetDeck. The London-based company, Tweetdeck, was bought at around 40 million dollars (£26 million) to 50 million dollars (£31 million).

Expect no major changes from TweetDeck even after the merger. All of the original 15 employees of the company will be retained, and many of its user, the ones dubbed as Twitter “power-users” will still be continued to use this application.

TweetDeck dates back to 2008. The program allows Twitter users to organize what and who they follow. Aside from this, TweetDeck can also be used to manage Facebook and LinkedIn accounts.

“Twitter needed to make sure that its strongest, most loyal, most dedicated users are staying in the fold,” said Debra Aho Williamson, a principal analyst from eMarketer, a research firm. More importantly, Twitter will be able to make these loyal customers see some of the more “important” things such as ads as TweetDeck users are not likely to see these ads.

Twitter might have spent last year’s total revenue of 45 million dollars (£27 million) in this deal. But since the company is expected to grow to 150 million dollars (£92 million), the decision could still make sense.

The trend started with the Greater Manchester Police who tweeted every single one of the 3,205 crime incidents that the police force has to deal with for a span of a whole day in October 2010.

Five press officers from West Midlands Police were convinced that this was a good idea, it made people aware that their police force is actually doing something. “We hope that the ‘tweet-a-thon’ will give people a flavour for the range of offenders we deal with, an insight into the court system, and importantly, peace of mind that justice is being done,” said Assistant Chief Constable Garry Forsyth. According to the Forsyth, the court initiative is a major step in making people aware that “police work doesn’t end following an arrest or even when a suspect is charged”.

There were several tweets from the West Midlands Police, Britain’s second largest policy force, and they varied from high profile and high impact crimes such as rape to the mundane such as a ram-raid on a post office. The press officers updated the world through Twitter real-time updates from Birmingham Magistrates Court.

“Something is technically wrong,” that is what the one-handed robot says when a 404 error page is to appear in Twitter.

The one-handed robot replaced the iconic fail whale by Twitter, the whale that is being carried by a flock of birds when the page is not able to load properly.

Though we like the fail whale, we’re giving the one-handed robot a chance. Come on, let’s cut him some slack, only one of his hands are working, he can’t do his task properly and all that he’s asking for is a chance to be as appreciated as the iconic whale.

But did people really appreciate the fail whale? Well, for one, the job assigned to him is a hard one and no one wants to hear the news that he is saying. It tells Twitter users that their page did not load properly. So, the task of the white one-handed robot is a pretty hard one, it’s supposed to provide at least some comic relief of a technical failure that took place.

The task at hand for the robot is a hard one so let’s just give this robot a chance.

The country’s most senior judge, the Lord Chief Justice warned that Tweeting in the court is likely to increase the risk of a mistrial. The Lord Chief Justice views the micro-blogging site as an all-too-open venue for campaigners to bombard and broadcast views and ideas that may influence the decision of a jury. He claimed that internet misuse must stop for the jury system to survive.

He reminds that tweets remain visible on the internet; therefore, to allow court-based tweeting increases the potential for prejudicial material about a defendant or a witness to be easily accessed on the internet.

The Lord Judge questions why such text-based transmission of information is allowed when even tape recordings were banned under the Contempt of Court Act. He asked: “Why is Twitter in the form of text-based transmission of material from court any different?” He points out that improper use of the internet must be acknowledged; a blind eye must not be turned to such an important issue.

These statements were apparent responses to the comments made by Lord MacDonald, the former director of public prosecutions, suggesting that judges were “giving up” trying to stop juries from trying to access potentially false and prejudicial information about defendants on Google, Facebook and Twitter.

It is common knowledge for Twitter users that a tweet can only have 140 characters on it.

But au contraire, a recent Twitter bug shows that users can post up to 3,000 characters, maybe even more.

The bug was reported in the Twitter Development Talk Google Group by forumer Chris White. He posted a step-by-step procedure of how to exceed the 140 character limit that the social networking site has. He said that when you go directly to the Twitter Share URL (http://twitter.com/share?url=) in your Firefox browser, and type your text after the “url=” then you could type as many characters as you want.

For example: “http://twitter.com/share?url=Gadgetepoint is the best place for the coolest and hippest gadgets, And what’s even better is that they deliver right at your doorstep. Check out the website and prepare to be excited”. If you type this in the URL after you log-in, you’ll be able to make this your status message even if the truthful statement is more than 140 characters.

But such “feature” or “bug”, depends on how you see it, wouldn’t be there for a long time as Twitter employee John Adams thanked Chris White online for exposing the said bug and stated that, “I filed a bug with our webclient team,” Expect that this feature or bug will no longer be available in the near future.

That’s too bad. If you the above message can’t be posted in Twitter anymore, you might as well try to see if the statement is correct by visiting Gadgetepoint.
